TMP Sustainability is we believe, the first Sustainability consultancy based within the East Midlands. It is our aim to offer design support to a range of clients locally, including: Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Developers to ensure that our buildings of the future are as energy efficient and environmentally friendly as possible.

A sustainable consultant has an overview of the whole project not just from beginning to completion but more importantly to the end of the life of the building. With this in mind they can understand the impact of every design decision and help consult on each aspect of the buildings construction with sustainability at the forefront of their minds.

Using energy as the parameter for design requires an integrated design process to create a multifunctional building.

A sustainable consultant will first consider the environmental performance of a building at its conceptual stage by applying building science and analytical techniques. There are various stages and issues to assess at this point in a buildings life and it is here that the most difference can be made to its energy performance. The considerations that a sustainable consultant looks at vary for each building but in general they can be categorised. The orientation of the building is assessed in order to maximise natural light, natural ventilation and passive heating.

The buildings material specification can be improved upon by considering alternative methods of construction. This will also enable the consultant to optimise the thermal envelope to reduce operational energy and make renewable energy viable.
