ELISABETH GREEN
TMP Sustainable Consultant
MSc in Renewable Energy with Architecture, Nottingham University BEng. Architectural Engineering, Cardiff University
Science, Nature and technology have always been my interests. I studied Architectural engineering at Cardiff University, the course aims were broad in their approach combining engineering with building services and architecture. I was introduced to Sustainability through a lecture by Bob Fowles. I quickly developed an understanding of why the integration of these three areas made good design from a construction and operational energy perspective.
I successfully graduated and went to work at Anthony Hunt Associates working on the Eden Institute building. In 2002 I entered and won the triennial Young Structural Engineering International Design Competition (YSEIDC). I went on to work at Buro Happold, I was involved with the initial design of the Welsh Institute of Sustainable Education (WISE) at the Centre of Alternative Technology (CAT).
After working as a structural engineer and working with a charity organisation called Envolve, I decided to go back to University because I wanted to make a difference to the environment by designing ecologically responsive buildings. I was accepted on an MSc course in Renewable Energy with Architecture at Nottingham University. I moved to Nottingham and worked full time at Price & Myers Consulting Engineers whilst doing the degree part time.
In 2005 I entered the YSEIDC again and won again for my integrated approach to design.
My role as sustainable consultant is the perfect fit for me, I am in the position to use a multidisciplined approach to design that I have developed and combine it with my passion for the environment.
